Travel Tips Part 3 – Flying Tips and Some Other Helpful Advice
i) Fight jet lag: Drink a lot of water in order to avoid dehydration (it exacerbates jet lag)
ii) Avoid alcohol or caffeine as they cause hydration
iii) Wear loose clothing and bring layers as cabin pressure may change. Many times, the climate in the country you are leaving from is different from the one you will be landing in, so make sure you don’t under-dress.
iv) Try to stay awake until it’s bedtime in your new surroundings: you want to try and get on the same clock as soon as possible to overcome jet lag.
v) If you wear glasses, bring eye drops and remove your contacts
Other Things to Remember:
• What you bring with you will be coming back home again. You will also most likely be buying things wherever you are headed, so remember that you only have so much room and that extra weight in your luggage can be very expensive.
• Use locks on your zippers. Even if they are small locks, this will deter anyone from taking the time to go through your belongings.
• Put tags on every piece of luggage you bring. The reality is that luggage can sometimes get lost – tags on your backpack with your information (email, phone number and home address) will make it much more likely for you to be reunited with your luggage.
• Take an international calling card with you as well as contact numbers. You never know what delays you might have, so if someone is waiting to pick you up at the airport you will have a way to get in touch with them.
• If you are tall or just like a lot of leg room, request to be seated in the ‘emergency section’ of the plane, where you will be able to stretch your legs out. As a bonus, you will be the first one served as well!!
